Too many times, life piles up with discouragement and responsibilities. This can take the form of disappointment, loss, fatigue, too many challenges, unrealistic expectations, and so on. To know “hope does not disappoint” means engaging an approach to life that’s both unusual and new to most people.

When hope is lost, it’s tempting to give up – or to slump into depression or some unhealthy pattern. In actuality, hope is a kind of spiritual discipline that can be adopted, practiced, and mastered. Nevertheless, one needs to train in hope to be filled with it.

Who Designed Hope?

God designed the concept of hope. Incidentally, He knows it’s a critical piece people need to thrive in this difficult world. So, God intends to train you to live in hope. Yes, God wants you to live with hope that does not disappoint as you strive forward in life. But how do you get into that kind of living?

Jer. 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Isn’t that what everyone wants? Hope! A future! Remarkably, God wants you to prosper. Equally, He does not want to harm you. Rather, He wants you to rise up into a healthy way of living. Do you need hope?

Why Hope Does Not Disappoint

Hope does not disappoint. At least, not real hope. In other words, hope that flows from the heart of God – not hope scraped together from this world or from people.

Contrary to hope from the world, hope from God is a refreshing power. God’s hope is a stabilizing force. Uniquely, His hope helps you turn the corner when life is difficult in a broken world. You are never a victim in Christ.

Rom. 5:5 says, “. . . hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”

1 Tim. 1:1 says Christ Jesus is our hope. Therefore, learning how to live in Christ is also learning how to live in hope. Choose Jesus. Get hope.

So, when life piles up with disappointments, losses, fatigue, too many challenges, unrealistic expectations – you can engage an approach to life that’s both unusual and refreshingly new. Plus, it’s very real and helps you prosper each day.

You don’t have to give up – or to slump into depression or an unhealthy pattern.
